The annual prize distribution ceremony in the Defence Housing Authority Degree College for Women Phase-VIII was held on Thursday with DHA Administrator Brig Aamer Raza Qureshi in the chair.
The newly-elected members of the students’ council also took oath of their offices in a separate ceremony at the college auditorium. The chief guest later distributed badges among the council members.
Brig Aamer congratulated the members of the students’ council of 2011 and advised them to discharge their onerous responsibilities with courage, vision and fair play. He said that sincerity and truth must remain the galvanizing principle in discharge of their duties.
The DHA administrator said that educated women could change the destiny of the nation. “Education gives confidence, strength and conviction to individuals and is instrumental in emancipation of women.”
Earlier, Principal Prof Nasreen Nasir, in her welcome speech, said that the courses of studies and other activities at the college were designed to encourage intellectual and critical thinking. The chief guest also announced an award of Rs200,000 for the college.
