Climax of DHA Cinema fiasco looms

LAHORE – The tug of war between the Defense Housing Authority (DHA) and the DHA Cinema management is about to reach its climax as December 1, the day the cinema is scheduled to reopen, closes in and the cinema’s closure is being challenged in court. The DHA has remained stable on its claim that the cinema would reopen on December 1, even as the conflict between it and the DHA Cinema management, which was contracted to Mandviwalla Entertainment before the closure, is in court. Adding to that, a DHA spokesman claimed that the cinema would be operated by the DHA directly from the 1st of December and that it would not be contracted to anyone this time.

Security concerns: DHA cinema closed till November 30

LAHORE: The Defence Housing Authority on Wednesday announced the closure of the DHA cinema till November 30, citing “security concerns”, though the cinema management challenged the claim.

The cinema had been sealed on October 27 and was expected to reopen on October 30, but now appears set to be closed for another month.
Mandviwalla Enter-tainment, which has a contract with DHA to run the cinema, said that it would press ahead with a legal challenge to the DHA action. Nadeem Mandviwalla, the company’s managing director, said that the DHA was already acting illegally as a civil judge had issued an order on October 28 restraining the authority from interfering in the cinema’s operation.
