Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has advised the citizen of twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi to utilize water carefully as supply from Khanpur Dam through Left Bank Canal source would remain suspended from January 17 to 23.
The dam would remain closed for its annual de-silting, cleansing and maintenance work, official sources in CDA told APP here.
The water supply from Sangjani Water Treatment Plant could also be affected during these days.
While, the curtailed water supply will be nine million gallons per day (mgd) to 15 mgd and five mgd to 10 mgd for Rawalpindi and Islamabad respectively during the closed days.
The dam, located on the Haro River near the town of Khanpur, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, is about 40 kilometres from Islamabad and it supplies water to the twin cities for drinking and irrigation purposes.
The reservoir, which was completed in 1983 after a 15 year construction period with a cost of around Rs1,352 million, is 167 feet high and has the capacity to store 110,000 acre feet water.
