CDA shifts focus to Zone-I, clears I-12/2

The Capital Development Authority’s enforcement directorate continued its operation to get the land released from adverse possession for the fourth day on Friday in accordance with the directions issued by Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

After conducting the operation in Zone-IV for the first two days, the CDA switched its focus to the Zone-I (Sectoral Area) and moved into get the acquired land in Sector I-12/2 released from adverse possession. By Friday evening the CDA has got more then 2,000 kanals of land released from adverse possession in Sector I-12/2 under the Supreme Court directions.

Member (Planning) Engineer Tahir Shamshad while talking to ‘The News’, said that the CDA has switched the focus of operation to Zone-I with the objective of not just getting back the acquired land from adverse possession, but to start development of the sector too. “I came back to the CDA as Member (Planning) with the main objective to start the development of halted sectors. That is why I sought CDA chairman’s permission to switch the focus to Zone-I for taking over possession of the land and launch development activity there,” he added.

He said that last time also, when the CDA launched a similar operation in sector I-11 (Afghan Basti) when the Afghan refugees started returning to their homeland, it ran into trouble when there was a violent reaction and the CDA had to pull back. “But this time because the operation is being conducted in accordance with the directions issued by the Chief Justice himself, it has become far more easier and the revenue department of the ICT administration as well as Islamabad Police have been extending all the support, the CDA needs implement the Supreme Court directions,” he said.

Meanwhile, CDA spokesman said that authority’s Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi visited different sites where the operation was in progress and directed the enforcement teams to expedite the operation to get the land vacated. He directed that the operation should be across the board and no concession whatsoever should be given to anyone in this regard. He said that the Supreme Court is being kept informed about the progress,” the spokesman added.

The CDA chairman once again called upon the illegal occupants of CDA’s acquired land to amicably hand over the possession to the teams engaged in operation. He said that the authority had given prior notice to all such occupants.

Director General Planning, Ghulam Sarwar Sindhu and Director Enforcement Muhammad Ramzan Joya led the operation for vacation of the land.Meanwhile, Media Consultant of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Zia Khokhar, has issued a clarification that the name of Malik Amjad Ali Noon, the Chairman of the Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission, was wrongly mentioned along with some others who were in adverse possession of CDA’s acquired land in Bani Gala.

“Amjad Ali Noon is living in his house in Bani Gala but he has not encroached upon even an inch of CDA’s acquired land. The assertion that the Enforcement Directorate team of the CDA razed any kind of encroachments on the land under adverse possession of Malik Amjad Ali Noon, are thus not true. He is a law-abiding citizen and will not do anything contrary to the law, Khokhar said.
