Islamabad—Capital Development Authority (CDA) would spend Rs 650 million on various environment friendly projects during next fiscal year 2011-12. The authority is endeavoring to preserve the green character of the capital city with special focus on improving landscape, saving water resources and increasing tree plantation.
Talking to APP, Chairman CDA, Imtiaz Inayat Elahi said the Authority has planned to plant one million saplings in the upcoming monsoon season, while 500,000 saplings were planted during last season. “We want to give a new vision, an identity to Islamabad; the Green City and our focus in the upcoming budget is on further improvement of environment besides introducing new environment friendly projects,” Imtiaz said.
The authority is also taking measures to conserve years old ‘Bargad’ trees besides marking 2011 as Forest years.
Imtiaz said CDA has initiated rain water harvesting project to recharge this precious commodity. The project has been completed at 20 sites which will help improving underground water table upto 20 feet.
An amount of Rs 200,000 to 400,000 had been spent on each site for digging up a well and transfer the drainage water into the ground again, the Chairman said.
