ISLAMABAD: ncroachments in the federal capital are increasing with every passing day due to Capital Developments Authority’s (CDA) negligence.
Although CDA enforcement teams are launching daily crackdowns on vendors and other encroachers, but it seems the authority was following a policy of “look busy, do nothing”.
Footpaths, green belts and markets from Pirwadhai Mor to Khyaban-e-Iqbal have been encroached.
Besides CDA licensed kiosks and ‘dhabas’ are emerging as a new form of encroachments.
Talking to this news agency, Farhan Bashir a citizen alleged that CDA officials were allegedly involved in encroachments in sectors F-8, F-10, G-7, G-8, G-9, G-10, I-8, I-9, I-10 and other sectors of the city, as they were getting bribe from the encroachers.
In Faizabad, vendors could be seen selling goods on the footpaths, forcing the pedestrians to use the roads risking their life as fast moving vehicles could run over them.
Qasim Ali, a Senior citizen, said CDA must launch a ruthless crackdown on the encroachers, as they were not only causing inconvenience to the pedestrians, but also affecting the beauty of the city by dumping unwanted things on the roadside.
When contacted, CDA spokesman Ramzan Sajid told that Chairman CDA Imtiaz Anayat Elahi has given direction to Directorate of Municipal Administration for removal of the encroachments from all markets and out door areas of the city.
CDA would launch operation in two phases, in first phase outdoors encroachments would be removed while in the second phase with the help of market associations CDA would eliminate all the illegal encroachments from the markets, he added.
He said encroachments in front of shops were causing inconvenience to the pedestrians. He said most of the encroachers re-establish their stalls just after the CDA anti-encroachment operation.
Ramzan further informed that CDA will launch its operation against encroachments from the next week and for the purpose the strategy has been finalised.
