Flag hoisting ceremonies

LAHORE HIGH COURT: A ceremony was held at the Lahore High Court in connection with the Independence Day on Friday. LHC judges, officers and staff as well as Punjab advocate general attended the event. LHC Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif, accompanied by other judges, hoisted the national flag on the LHC building. Prayers for the prosperity of the country were led by Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry. Earlier, a contingent of police presented a guard of honour.

LAHORE GARRISON: The Independence Day was celebrated with simplicity and solemnity by all Formations and Units of Lahore Garrison. Special prayers were offered for integrity, solidarity, progress and prosperity of Pakistan after Namaz-e-Fajr at all Formationsí and Unitsí mosques. The day dawned with 21-gun salute at the Fortress Stadium Lahore Cantonment.

In commemoration of Independence Day, a get-together was hosted by Commander Lahore Corps, Lieutenant General Ijaz Ahmed Bakhshi in the honour of serving and retired Officers, junior commissioned officers and soldiers of Lahore Garrison.

Minister attends I-Day celebration at Swat: Punjab Minister for Excise & Taxation, Transport and Education, Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman attended the Independence Day celebrations held at Mingora, Swat, on 14th August 2009. This was to express solidarity with people of Malakand and law enforcing agencies personnel fighting against terrorists there. Addressing on the occasion, the minister said that Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif has specially instructed him to attend this ceremony to pay tribute to IDPs of Swat for their sacrifices in national interest. He assured the IDPs that the Punjab government would continue to support them in the field of health, education and rehabilitation.

Flag hoisting ceremony at Wahga: Major General Yaqoob Khan has said that enthusiasm of the nation with the Independence Day showed pride and patriotism of every Pakistani.

Talking to media at the flag hoisting ceremony at the Wahga Border, he said that the armed forces especially the Rangers have a proud legacy of holding the national flag high at all fronts whether in peace or war.

Major General Yaqoob Khan said that the national sovereignty and independence merited celebration not only on 14th August but every day of the year.

The flag hoisting ceremony commenced at 10 am in the morning at the Bab-e-Azadi. National Anthem was played and the crowd stood in reverence and sung along. Later, a smartly turned out contingent of the Rangers conducted the ceremony.

Flag hoisting at educational institutions: Different ceremonies were organized at educational institutions to celebrate the 62nd Independent Day of the country on Friday. At the Punjab University (PU), Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran hoisted national flag outside Faisal Auditorium building. Deans of faculties, senior teachers, employees and children were also present on the occasion. The Government College University (GCU) Vice Chancellor Dr Khalid Aftab during the flag hoisting ceremony stressed on following the teachings of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Similarly, a flag hoisting ceremony was organized at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS). UVAS VC Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz hoisted the national flag while the university staff and students attended the ceremony in large numbers. The VC urged the university staff and students to follow the principles of unity, faith and discipline given by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Earlier, Quran Khawani was also held in the university mosque and Dua was offered for the integrity, solidarity and prosperity of the country.

Kinnaird College’s Political Science Department also organized an event to celebrate the 62 years of independence with the theme for the day “National Integration”. The event started up with a play called “Rise from the ashes”. It tried to bring in to the limelight those people who are the true followers of our ancestors and they do defend their nation and make an effort to help to have their country on a prosperous way.

Different student organizations also organized events to celebrate the Independence Day. The PU chapter Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) organized different programmes at varsity’s hostels at Old and New Campuses.

A flag hoisting ceremony was organized in New Campus Hostel No 1 and at Old Campus.

I-DAY CELEBRATIONS AT HOSPITALS: The administration, faculty and staff of government teaching hospitals celebrated the Independence Day with traditional zeal and enthusiasm on Friday.

Shaikh Zayed Hospital and all provincial government hospitals including Mayo Hospital, Services Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Lahore General Hospital, Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Punjab Institute of Mental Hospital, The Children’s Hospital held impressive and colorful ceremonies to celebrate the occasion and heads of these institutions hoisted national flags. The administrations, faculty, nurses and staff others vowed to serve the country in their individual capacity with renewed and true national spirit.

PTI RALLY: The Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf held a rally to celebrate the Independence Day. The rally started from the Lahore High Court and ended at the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal.

Flag hoisting ceremony at Ravi Toll Plaza: DEPUTY Inspector General (Motorways) Dr Muhammad Shafique presided over the flag hoisting ceremony held at Ravi Toll Plaza on August 14 and distributed buntings and stickers among motorists.

The DIG (Motorways) addressed the officers and distributed prizes among the children.

WAPDA celebrates ID with fervor: Wapda employees from across the country celebrated the Independence Day with traditional zeal and zest.
