Folk dances focus of CDGL’s Independence Day celebrations

LAHORE: The City District Government Lahore (CDGL) would organise folk dances depicting the culture of Pakistan’s four provinces to celebrate the 63rd Independence Day.

According to details, the CDGL would decorate the city according to the government’s directions and place Pakistani flags on commercial buildings and mark the “Pakistan theme” on main roads including The Mall, the Gulberg Main Boulevard, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road and Canal Bank Road.

All main crossings would be decorated with banners and streamers carrying Quaid-e-Azam’s quotes and showing the provinces’ cultures.

A float named the “Azadi Carnival” would tour the roads, and green belts on The Mall would be decorated with the colors of the national flag.

The festivities would start on August 12 and would continue until the night of August 14.

The CDGL has sought the cooperation and participation of the Parks and Horticulture Authority and directed all concerned authorities to carry out the programme. The CDGL has also directed the Solid Waste Management Department to keep the city clean and ensure timely waste disposal.

A Lahore Civil Defence (CD) squad would present the guard of honour at the flag-hoisting ceremony that would be held at Hazoori Bagh. Electric sirens would ring for one minute in the whole city. All CD divisional offices would remain open on August 13 and 14 and the bomb disposal squad would remain on high alert. The CD’s control room set up at Nasir Bagh would deal with any untoward situation.

National flags, buntings, stickers and badges with photographs of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal have flooded shops in the city. Citizens have purchased flags and buntings early to escape a speculated price hike before August 14.

Citizens: Citizens said it was time to vow not to let anti-democratic forces intervene in the country’s affairs. They said the public should pledge to rid the country of terrorism and to prevent Talibanisation.

The people urged political parties unite and focus on resolving the country’s crises.
