ISLAMABAD: Federal Communications Minister Babar Khan Ghauri called on Balochistan Governor Awais Ahmad Ghani on Sunday at Balochistan House in Islamabad and discussed matters relating to Gwadar Port.
The minister said to the governor that the acquisition of land for the port was a problem that must be solved as soon as possible. Mr Ghauri told the governor that Gwadar Port Authority offices were being moved from Karachi to Gwadar in a week.
The minister said the Makran Coastal Highway had been completed and efficient police personnel equipped with modern weapons would be deployed there to ensure road safety. He said people living in the area would be given jobs at Gwadar Port on a preferential basis. Mr Ghauri said a fishing jetty was being constructed, including residences for the fishermen.
He said the money for the construction of Gwadar Airport runway has been released and work is likely to start soon.
The Balochistan governor expressed his satisfaction over security arrangements in Gwadar. He told the minister that the port offices could be housed in the residences vacated by the Chinese workers.
The governor said the available Maritime Security Agency boats should be used to patrol for terrorists.
Mr Ghani said the security at Gwadar Airport has been beefed up and the frontier constabulary was patrolling the residential colonies.
