ISLAMABAD: Landowners of sectors H-16 and I-17 have rejected an award package announced by Capital Development Authority (CDA) for acquisition of land and vowed to resist it until reasonable prices were paid to them.

A delegation, comprising landowners of the two sectors, on Sunday called on Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Babar Awan, who is also chairman of Steering Committee on Islamabad Development Package (SCIDP) constituted by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani.

The delegation comprised Pir of Noon Sharif, Malik Rab Nawaz Noon, Shah Nazir, Malik Shahzad Noon, Malik Ghulam Safdar Noon, Malik Nazir Akhtar, Auliya Khan, Malik Tariq, Malik Zafar and Haji Alamgir.

They briefed the minister on tense situation in the area. They categorically rejected the CDA award package, saying the authority had not consulted them before announcing the award package. They vowed to resist the CDA award package and presented their demands and a resolution to the minister.

Dr Awan said the government would not let residents of the sectors be victim of injustice. He said the government would not allow the CDA to acquire the land illegally for these two sectors.

He assured the affected people that he would summon the CDA chairman and the Islamabad chief commissioner as the SCIDP chairman to sort out the matter. He advised them to exercise patience, as the government would protect their rights.

The minister accepted the delegation’s invitation to their areas. He said he would visit the sectors on January 25 and announce a special development projects for the area. app
