Karachi: Administrator DHA Brig Khalid Tirmizi made a five hour whirlwind tour of Katchi Abadis of CBC including Delhi Colony, Punjab Colony, Jhumuria Colony, Chandio Village and Hazara Colony to have the first hand knowledge of the problems and difficulties of the residents of the area.
The Administrator directed the accompanying CBC staff to take proactive measures for bringing about a substantial improvement in sanitation and sewerage systems in the slum areas. He said that this would give a semblance of reasonable living environment to the residents of slums.
Brig Tirmizi ordered CBC to carry out tiling of the streets and carpeting of the road in Delhi Colony at the earliest. He also asked the CBC officials concerned to extend the road median of Delhi Colony to ensure smooth flow of traffic. He directed CBC officials to remove the encroachments in the area in a month’s time with out any delay.
He ordered construction of two Pedestrian Bridges on Ch. Khalique Zaman Road opposite Eidgah and on Kh-e-Jami opposite CBC Fire Brigade.
The Administrator took notice of acute shortage of water in Delhi Colony, Punjab Colony and Chandio Village and asked CBC officials to take concerted measures to ensure adequate supply of water to the resident. He also ordered laying of a new 24” dia sewerage line for Punjab Colony to ensure uninterrupted flow of sewer.
He asked CBC to renovate and to install floodlights in Punjab Colony Football Ground to provide a healthy outlet for the area’s youth. He also announced to organize CBC Football Championship under the patronage of DHA. The final of the tournament will be played on 23 Mar ‘09.
The Administrator announced installation of a Filter Plant in Jhumuria Colony and ordered CBC to carry out cleaning of all water tanks in the area. He ordered reconstruction of streets in Jhumuria Colony and construction of a Dispensary on an open plot by removing the illegal encroachment.
The Administrator also announced the repair, renovation and improvement of Railway Ground in Hazara Colony to provide a good sports venue for the youth of the area. He said that DHA as a good will gesture will contribute 50% cost of the project, the rest will be borne by residents through voluntary contributions.
The Administrator also inspected the ongoing work of repair/carpeting of roads in DHA damaged during laying of a new drainage system. He ordered that more frequented main roads Kh-e-Shamsheer, Kh-e-Saba and 26th Street in DHA be constructed on top most priority to alleviate the pressing problems of the residents. Earlier the Administrator gave the approval for construction of a Theme Park in Clifton Block 8 by amalgamating three adjoining small parks in the area. The park would be developed as a family recreational resort. The theme park would consist of exclusive sports park, children park, play land, mini zoo, food courts, public toilets and underground parking lot.
The Administrator was accompanied besides other CBC Officials by CEO CBC Zeenat Ahmed and Member CBC Aziz Suharwardy.
