The Lahore High Court has banned the sale of national flags inscribed with pictures of different eminent personalities, cartoons and slogans. The court has also sought reply from the Punjab government and the Lahore DCO by Thursday (today). The court issued the order on a petition of a citizen Shakeela Rana who sought directions to protect the sanctity of national flag. She pleaded that national flag has a specified design, and no extra figure should be printed on it.
National flags adorned with pictures of different personalities and cartoons are available in markets of the city, she said, adding trousers and clothes printed with national flags were also being sold in the city. She said all this unpleasant stuff was being sold in the markets in violation of the sanctity of national flag. She said the nation was going to celebrate its 63rd independence day but had not learnt to observe the sanctity of their national flag. She argued that the pictures of different personalities would only represent different sections of society while the national flag was the symbol of unity of whole nation including all minorities.
