The lane marking at Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, picks up momentum: Lahore

LAHORE – The lane marking at Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, recently widened and rehabilitated at the cost of Rs 760 million, has picked up the momentum. The lane marking process is likely to be completed by the end of the month. It is another milestone of TEPA, a subordinate body of LDA that completed the project with precision.
Maulana Shaukat Ali Road, 6 kilometre long and 125 feet wide, is one of the main arteries of the City connecting Canal Bank Road with various residential societies. It has been completed in two phases. First phase has been completed from Jinnah Hospital to Model Town Link Road and second phase has been completed from Model Town Link Road to PECO Chowk.
It is two-carriage way with either side of the road 30 feet wide. A 4 feet wide drain has been laid down in the centre of the road. 18 feet wide service road has also been constructed on both sides of Maulana Shaukat Ali Road to facilitate the commercial and other traffic. Another salient feature of the road is the installation of road signs at per digital age demands.
An underpass will be constructed under the railway line near the PECO Road soon.
The road was scheduled to be completed last year but it faced inordinate delay. Encroachment was amongst the major reasons that delayed the completion of project.
Viewing the severity of the situation, LDA DG Shahid Mehmood launched anti-encroachment drive on the direction of CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif to complete the project without any further loss of time. He entrusted the task to Town Planning and Estate Management Directorate to remove the encroachment with clear instruction not to bow to any sort of pressures. Hundreds of permanent encroachments were demolished during the drive to keep traffic flow smooth clearing off the walkways and service roads for pedestrians.
DG LDA personally supervised the completion and purging the Maulana Shaukat Ali Road from the menace of different sort of encroachments. He asked encroachers to voluntarily remove all encroachments without delay, saying all these encroachments were made violating building by-laws and were impeding movement of pedestrians. He said that failure to comply with the orders will result in severe action and those responsible would have to pay demolition charges as well.
