SC calls report from food officials
LAHORE: A full bench of the Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday directed District Food Officer Dr Masood Ashraf, Chief Food Inspector Muhammad Ayub and Food Inspector Kamran Butt to present on Friday (today) a detailed report about the quality of food being served at the city’s hotels and restaurants. The bench took the suo motu notice of the carelessness of the Punjab Food Department in checking the sale of unhygienic food in restaurants. The bench regretted fat of dead animals was being served at restaurants in the name of delicious food whereas authorities concerned had turned a blind eye to it. The bench remarked the performance of the district food officer under Pure Food Ordinance was not satisfactory as all the work was shown only on paper. The bench warned the administration of a renowned restaurant to raise their standard otherwise the court would order its closure. The bench took notice on a report aired by a local news channel that unhealthy food was being served at hotels and restaurants.
