SC takes notice of encroachment
LAHORE: A full bench of the Supreme Court (SC), taking suo motu notice of the illegal occupation of schools’ land in the city, on Thursday remarked that nobody would be allowed to encroach the land of educational institutions.
The bench, consisting of Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday, Justice Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmad and Justice Sair Ali, directed the Punjab education secretary to prepare the cases against land grabbers keenly so that they could be decided at the earliest.
The bench also directed Additional Advocate General Hanif Khatana to provide legal assistance to the education secretary.
During the hearing, it was disclosed that mosques and shops had been constructed on the encroached land. The bench directed all the occupants of such land, present in the courtroom, to provide legal documents claiming their possessions on August 31. Earlier, the secretary (schools) informed the court that there were five schools in the city which were in possession of land grabbers, and that they had constructed shops and mosques on it. These are Government Primary School Township, Government High School Township Block-7, Government High School Township Block-10 and Government Girls Primary School Ichhra.
