ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that government accords high priority to the provision of electricity to the people living in far-flung areas of the country through exploring alternative sources of energy.
The Prime Minister while chairing a briefing from Highnoon Company on the provision of solar panels for the purpose of house electrification, here at the PM’s House Monday afternoon, said the solar energy was a significant option available as Pakistan was blessed with ample sunshine throughout the year.
While briefing the Prime Minister about their company’s initiative by installing stand alone arrangement of solar panels to 30 houses in the suburb of Multan with a provision of electricity per house, the vice chairman of the company informed that it was a pilot project for the areas which could not otherwise access electricity.
They also apprised the Prime Minister on the options of solar water pumps to be installed in areas where it is impossible to provide electricity from the Wapda grid for the purposes of irrigation.
The Prime Minister asked the Highnoon delegation to explore possibility of solar grid station so that cluster of villages could be provided electricity through one source. He said that government had vigorously embarked on providing the basic necessities to the people at their doorsteps.
He said that every effort would be made to overcome the energy shortage in the country.
