Edible oil, ghee prices increased

At a time when prices of commodities are already terribly high, Rs 20 and Rs 25 have been increased on the 16-kg canisters of ghee and edible oil respectively in the wholesale market of the city.

According to Fareed Qureishi, General Secretary of Retailers and Grocers Association, the price of a 16kg ghee canister has been raised from Rs 1750 to Rs 1770 while the price of a 16 kg edible oil canister has been raised from Rs 1650 to Rs 1675.

Sheikh Abdul Rasheed, of the Pakistan Vanaspati Manufactures, said that prices have been raised due to the high prices in the international market. “The increase in price has nothing to do with the coming of Ramadan. Such a step has been taken to deal with the raise in prices internationally, and also to counter the rupee depreciation vs. dollar. However, there would be no shortage of ghee and oil in the Holy month,” he added.

Islamabad: NHA directed to accelerate work on housing project

ISLAMABAD—Minister for Communications Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan on Tuesday directed National Highway Authority (NHA) to accelerate the pace of work on NHA housing project so that its benefits could instantly be transferred to the employees.
He issued these instructions during a presentation in the Ministry where Chairman NHA Altaf Ahmed Ch. gave the Minister a detailed briefing about various aspects of the project.
The Minister was informed that Rs. 1.7 billion housing project was launched in 2004 and was meant to be completed in 2006. The project, however, got delayed owing to various land acquisition related issues.
The Minister was told that land acquisition process had been duly completed and efforts were being made for an early development of the project.

Court seeks record of Gwadar land allotment

The Supreme Court has directed the prosecutor-general of the National Accountability Bureau to present the record pertaining to an agreement regarding distribution of 3,197 acres of land in Gwadar.

A bench comprising Justice Javed Iqbal and Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmed issued notice to the prosecutor-general on a petition filed by one Zahra Bibi.

The petitioner submitted that her land had been acquired by the government for the forest department without her consent. She pleaded that the Balochistan chief minister had committed to provide alternative land but so far it had not been allotted to her.

Counsel for the Balochistan Board of Revenue informed the court that through an agreement at the instance of NAB about 3,197 acres had been offered to 94 applicants in Gwadar.

The court asked the prosecutor-general to present on Oct 16 records regarding rights and settlements carried out from 1976 to 1996.
