ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Saturday denied suggestions that the Gwardar port was being developed as a naval base for China, saying a news report in this regard was not correct.
“It is being developed as a commercial port which will increase Pakistan’s trade relations with the Middle East, Central Asia and Europe and provide a two-way access to commercial traffic from Central Asian countries to transform Pakistan into the region’s commercial hub,” a Foreign Office spokesman said.
The spokesman also praised China for its valuable assistance in developing the port.
