Overcharging, sale of substandard

USUAL complaints of overcharging, sale of substandard fruits and vegetables unavailability of good quality items were seen in Sunday bazaars this week

However, one improvement witnessed in makeshift markets was that local and multinational companies had printed manufacturing and expiry dates on the products. Interestingly, the implementation of this rule was also observed with the non-famous brand products as well which showed that with the will of the government, any rule or law could be implemented.

Shortage of some vegetables was witnessed in the posh areas of the city as well. The vendors had also not displayed their price cards issued by the market committee in the majority of makeshift markets.

Sale of substandard beverages continued in all makeshift markets of the city and the district food department did not take any action on the sale of hazardous beverages, Nimko and other items.

Meat sellers had not installed nets at their shops and continued their business as par routine. However, some banners were hanging by the Data Gunj Bukhsh Town at Shadman Sunday bazaar to mention the designated areas for meat and fruits vendors. The sale of B-category fruits and vegetables continued in all the makeshift markets.

Sugar price was further increased by Re one and fixed at Rs 51 to 52 per kg from Rs 50 per kg in Sunday bazaar but it was not seen there as in open market it had reached Rs 54 per kg. Masoor pulse was fixed at Rs 102 to 110 per kg while it was sold at Rs 120 to 130 per kg and Masoor (imported) price was fixed at Rs 92 to 96 per kg and it was sold at Rs 110 per kg while Masoor (desi) was not available and the vendors said its price in the wholesale market was Rs 160 per kg so it was not possible for them to bring it in the makeshift market.

Lentil (unwashed) price was gained by Rs 2 to 5 per kg and reached Rs 95 to 110 per kg while lentil (washed) fixed at Rs 102 to 110 per kg and lentil whole was fixed at Rs 82 to 86 per kg. Gram pulse price was gained by Rs 2 per kg and reached at Rs 40 to 43 per kg from Rs 38 to 44 per kg while the its lower quality was sold at Rs 44 to 45 per kg. The price of chilli powder was Rs 80 to 88 per kg. The price of gram powder was fixed at Rs 41 to 44 per kg. Rice Basmati (386) price was fixed at Rs 39 to Rs 41 per kg and it was sold at Rs 42 to 43 per kg.

Rice super basmati (new) price was increased by Rs 2 per kg and fixed at Rs 62 to 66 per kg and lower quality was sold at Rs 66 to 68 per kg while Super basmati (old) price was fixed at Rs 72 to 77 per kg but it was missing in makeshift markets.

The price of potato was reduced by Rs 2 to 6 per kg and fixed at Rs 22 to 26 per kg from Rs 28 to 32 per kg and potato (stored) was fixed at Rs 14 to 16 per kg from Rs 14 to 17 per kg. The vendors sold potato at Rs 26 per kg. The price of onion was reduced by Re one per kg and fixed at Rs 15 to 17 per kg from Rs 16 to 18 and lower quality sold at Rs 17 per kg.

The green chilli’s price was increased by Rs 6 to 8 per kg and fixed at Rs 40 to 48 per kg from Rs 34 to 40 per kg while it was sold at Rs 50 per kg.

The price of tomato was gained by Rs 12 to 10 per kg and fixed at Rs 34 to 36 per kg from Rs 22 to 26 per kg from while it was sold at Rs 36 per kg.

Garlic (desi) price was fixed at Rs 78 to 82 per kg from Rs 80 to 88 per kg while garlic (China) was fixed at Rs 75 to 80 per kg after gaining Rs 5 per kg from last week price of Rs 70 to 75 per kg. The price of ginger (China) was reduced by Rs 10 to 8 per kg and fixed at Rs 84 to 90 per kg from Rs 94 to 98 per kg while it was sold at Rs 90 per kg and ginger (Thai) was fixed at Rs 72 to 78 per kg.

The price of spinach was fixed at Rs 6 to 7 per kg and it was missing. Brinjal price was fixed at Rs 14 to 16 per kg from Rs 14 to 18 per kg.

Cucumber’s price was fixed at Rs 20 to 28 per kg from Rs 32 to 40 per kg.

The price of pumpkin was increased by Rs 4 per kg and fixed at Rs 34 to 40 per kg from Rs 30 to 36 per kg.

Bitter gourd rate was increased by Rs 2 to Re one per kg and fixed at Rs 30 to 35 per kg from Rs 28 to 34 per kg while it sold at Rs 35 per kg.

Capsicum’s price was increased by Rs 4 per kg and fixed at Rs 30 to 34 per kg from Rs 26 to 30 per kg but it was missing in majority of bazaars.

Ladyfinger’s price remained stable at Rs 30 to 36 per kg while its lower quality was sold at Rs 36 per kg.

Arum’s price was reduced by Rs 6 to 4 per kg and fixed at Rs 20 to 24 per kg from Rs 26 to 28 per kg.

The price of lemon (desi) was gained by Rs 14 to 16 per kg and fixed at Rs 50 to 60 per kg from Rs 36 to 44 per kg.

Cabbage’s price was Rs 34 to 36 per kg from Rs 32 to 38 per kg and cauliflower price was fixed at Rs 30 to 35 per kg from 36 to 42 per kg.

Peas price was fixed at Rs 85 to 100 per kg from Rs 102 to 120 per kg but it was missing in Sunday bazaars.

The price of different varieties of apple was fixed at Rs 30 to 70 per kg from Rs 25 to 75 per kg and average price of lower quality apples was Rs 60 per kg.

The price of banana was Rs 20 to 40 per dozen and its low quality was sold at Rs 35 per dozen.

Different varieties of mangoes price was fixed at Rs 20 to 55 per kg from Rs 22 to 56 per kg while its average price was Rs 40 to Rs 50 per kg.

The price of apricot was fixed at Rs 80 to 100 per kg from Rs 70 to 80 per kg and it was not seen in majority of makeshift markets.

Plump price was fixed at Rs 90 to 130 per kg from Rs 90 to 125 per kg while its low quality was sold at Rs 100 to 110 per kg.

The price of peach was fixed at Rs 60 to 70 per kg from Rs 50 to 70 per kg while lower average price was Rs 65 per kg.

Grapes price was fixed at Rs 60 to 115 per kg while grapes Sudarkhani was sold at Rs 115 per kg.

The price of pomegranate was fixed at Rs 40 to 45 per kg from Rs 35 to 45 per kg from but it sold at Rs 50 per kg and guava was fixed at Rs 20 to 28 per kg from Rs 22 to 30 per kg.

The price of dates was fixed at Rs 18 to 105 per kg from 20 to 115 per kg while average price of it was Rs 70 to 90 per kg.
