The National Assembly”s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has sought explanation from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on issues such as allocation of a plot to a private company for the construction of a fast food outlet in F-9 Park, construction and allotment of a rest house at Pir Sohawa and allotment of plots for five star hotel near Convention Center.
Qamaruz Zaman Kaira of Pakistan People”s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) said that various news reports about the projects had alleged that the allotments were made without following the prescribed criteria. “CDA Chairman Kamran Lashari should brief the committee on these projects in its next meeting to clear doubts about the allotment of these plots to certain individuals in violation of rules,” he said.
Malik Allah Yar Khan, the PAC chairman, supported Kaira”s suggestion and directed the CDA chairman to brief the committee over the alleged violations of rules in allotment of the land to private parties.
Committee member Aasyia Azim asked the CDA chairman about the development on the issue of giving compensation to people affected by the Margalla Towers tragedy. Lashari said that the people who had been affected by the collapse of the Margalla Towers were being paid house rents. “The constructor of the towers is living in England and the government is in contact with the Interpol for his extradition,” he said. He said that the government was finalising the decision to deal with the compensation of people and the reconstruction of the towers.
