* Valuables worth Rs 20m recovered
* Mastermind also arrested
KARACHI: The Darakshan police on Tuesday apprehended two domestic runaway maids, who had stolen valuables worth Rs 20 million from the residence of a relative of the Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza. The crime had taken place a week ago, but the untiring efforts of the police proved fruitful.
According to the police, two maids Mehwish and Nadia stole valuables worth over Rs 20 million from the residence of industrialist Umar Farooq, son of Naseem Farooq located at Khayaban-e-Mujahid, DHA Phase V in the limits of Darakhshan police station.
They said the domestic servants, who concealed the plundered valuables including Rolex watches and diamonds in their handbags, were working in Umar’s house for the last seven months.
Darakhshan police Station House Officer Rana Amjad said that the police had lodged an FIR 35/2011 against Mehwish and Nadia and started conducting raids for their arrests. Meanwhile, Ishaq Lashari, an investigation officer of the case said that these maids, who hailed from Southern Punjab, had replaced their mothers working in Umar’s house.
The police arrested both female embezzlers along with their accomplice Ameen and recovered all stolen goods from their possession.
Police officials said that they had obtained the list of all the calls made from the maids’ mobiles from the respective cellular companies. One number was dialed continuously. We put surveillance on that specific number. The police raided a place at Sohrab Goth but to no avail. Then again the police raided a location at Defence and arrested Ameen, to whom the number belonged. Initial interrogation revealed that he was the mastermind behind the robbery. DSP Zamir Abbasi said that upon the direction of Ameen police conducted a raid at a house located at Gulshan-e-Iqbal and arrested Mehwish and Nadia with all the stolen goods.
Police officials said that the complainant was the relative of the Sindh home minister, which is why strict action was taken to apprehend the culprits, otherwise if it would have been a not so resourceful complainant then the case file would have been covered with dust along with other files.
