Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi on Wednesday announced residential colonies for industrial workers next to all new and existing industrial estates in the province.
He told two separate functions organised by the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association and Faisalabad Chambers of Commerce and Industry that training institutes would also be constructed in the labour colonies to produce skilled labour.
He said traders and industrialists were playing an important role in Pakistan”s economic development and that it was because of them that the country was earning large sums of foreign exchange and job opportunities were being created. He said that the M-3 Industrial City, which was the country”s largest industrial estate, was being set up in Faisalabad and that industrial activity at the estate would start within two years. He said Rs 400 billion would be invested in M-3 Industrial Estate.
He said there was a shortage of skilled labour and therefore the government was setting up training centres at the tehsil level under TEVTA for which Rs 1 billion had been allocated. He also said TEVTA boards set up at the district level would be reorganised and that the government had decided to let local industrialists be part of the boards.
Later, Elahi announced a package to replace the sewerage system of Faisalabad, to construct roads and provide potable water and medical facilities. A ring road in the city costing Rs 11 billion was also included in the package, he said, adding that it would streamline traffic coming from other areas into the city.
The chief minister then inaugurated Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Auditorium at the Faisalabad Arts Council. He was told at a briefing that the auditorium had been constructed at a cost of Rs 50 million and included a revolving stage hall, library, music classes, art gallery and dance academy.
