ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Tuesday summoned Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) with complete records of the illegal use of agricultural farms in the federal capital. Issuing notices to agricultural farm owners who have illegally constructed palaces and marriage centers on farmlands, the court asked why the allotted land should not be canceled.
The CDA had earlier allotted farmland to 505 persons for agricultural purpose but they constructed buildings on the land instead. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Javed Iqbal and comprising Justice Raja Fayyaz Ahmad and Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, also issued a notice to Attorney General for Pakistan regarding the case. The bench was hearing a suo moto case regarding agricultural lands allotted to different people.
Justice Javed Iqbal said in his remarks that the main purpose of the agriculture farms was to provide milks, eggs, fruits and vegetables to the citizens of capital but palaces had been constructed there instead. He also observed that the court would examine the CDA’s procedure of allotting the land for agricultural farms, since the CDA had relaxed its rules at the time of allotment. The court adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
