No occupant returns vehicle despite Cabinet Division’s instructions

ISLAMABAD: Unauthorised use of Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) vehicles by political personalities and CDA officers is continuing despite the Cabinet Division’s directions to recover the vehicles worth of Rs 20 million from the occupants.
Sources told Daily Times that not even a single occupant had followed these instructions.
It is learnt that Punjab Governor Sardar Muhammad Latif Khosa did not return a double cabin vehicle that was given to him when he was adviser to prime minister. According to letter No CDA-14(11)Genl/91/860 regarding “surrender of additional official vehicles”, CDA has given a Toyota P/Up D/Cabin bearing registration number GS-11 to Khosa.
CDA is facing severe financial crunch, but the management has not stopped unauthorized expenditures, due to which problems of the authority are continuously increasing, said the sources. They said presently CDA officers are using more than one vehicle although the rules allow them to use only one vehicle. CDA has also given vehicles to political personalities, which is another violation of law, the sources maintained.
Taking action on a Daily Times report about illegal use of CDA vehicles, the Cabinet Division had instructed the CDA management through letter No 6/1/2009-Acctts-III to address the issue of the unauthorized use of government vehicles.
