What is the worth of our cabinet ministers?

ISLAMABAD: The asset declarations of the federal cabinet members reveal the fluctuation in their fortunes during the past three years.

Federal minister for religious affairs and labour and manpower, Syed Khursheed Shah’s assets were worth Rs11,900,000 in 2010. His two wives own assets worth Rs27,578,000 and Rs26,734,000 respectively. In 2009 his wealth valued Rs51,610,000 while in 2008 his assets were worth Rs24,600,000 with Rs100,000 loan.

Federal minister for Kashmir affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo has shown his assets as land measuring 411 kanals and 15 marlas worth Rs26.18m; 386 kanals-05 marlas worth Rs33.77m; 28 kanals 02 marlas worth Rs1.75 million; house in Model Town Lahore worth Rs40m; Rs3 million plot in Okara; Land Cruiser worth 1.215 million; 100 tola gold worth Rs4 million while Rs0.9 million cash in bank and furniture worth Rs0.2 million.

He has liabilities approaching Rs14.55 million. In 2009 he had assets worth Rs156.24 million while in 2008 he owned Rs84.6 million assets. Federal minister for industrial production Mir Hazar Khan Bijrani has property worth Rs28.6 million of which some is under family dispute.

His two cars including a Mercedes are worth Rs3.5 million. He also owns 100 tola of gold worth Rs2m. He has Rs500000 cash in hand Rs6.7 million in banks. He owns furniture worth Rs1 million and weapons etc worth 0.6 million. In 2009 he owned assets worth Rs45544000, which were worth Rs34400000 in 2008. Dr Arbab Almagir has declared the value of his assets for 2010 worth Rs1445100000. He had a fortune valued Rs1128350253 in 2009 and approximately Rs102000000 in 2008.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Faisal Karim Kundi, has shown his assets valued at Rs500000 for agriculture land measuring 23 kanals. He has Rs800000 cash in bank and furniture worth Rs200000. In 2009 his assets declaration showed that he had assets worth Rs1.2m and $9970 dollars while in 2008 he had Rs1128000 assets.

Defence minister Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar has shown that in 2010 his assets were worth Rs52341020 with Rs3368266 liability. In 2009 his assets were worth Rs66 million and in 2008 his fortune valued Rs79705902.

Federal minister Samina Khalid Ghurki owns 465 tolas of gold and Rs10000000 worth prize bonds. She has a sum of Rs195000 in bank and her furniture costs Rs3800000. Her husband Khalid Javed Ghurki who recently passed away owned 895 kanal land in Kasur; 5 acres in Kasur; 47 acres in Lahore; 31 acres in village Ghurki; 100 kanals in Shahdara, which is under litigation; one acre at Jallo More, Lahore; 2.5-kanal house in Phase-I DHA Lahore; two Toyota jeeps and a BMW car; a piece of 418 kanal-18 marla land; 40% shares in Hydra Poultry Form and Rs10 million cash in hand and a similar amount as fixed deposit. In 2009 Samina had declared that she owns assets worth Rs14 million while in 2008 she had Rs9.93miilion assets along with 345 tola gold and three plots measuring one acre, one kanal and 1000 yards.

Naveed Qamar has shown his assets equal to Rs27405755 with liabilities amounting to Rs21741440. In 2009 his assets valued Rs15698805 and in 2008 the same were worth Rs10703850.

Hina Rabbani Khar has an investment of Rs712351 in Polo Lounge, Lahore; her jewellery is worth Rs3000000 while she has a sum of Rs300152 in banks. She also owns land worth Rs9000000 in Kot Adu. Her plot in Islamabad values Rs1400000 and land measuring 78 acres 1 kanal and 3 marla in Muzaffarghar is worth Rs2674129. Her assets in 2009 valued at Rs10069205 and Rs14304500 in 2008.

Federal minister for railways Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour owns assets worth Rs46452240 while his spouse had Rs15150000 assets in 2010. In 2008 he had assets worth Rs16093322 and his spouse had Rs5286572, the assets declaration documents reveal.

Federal minister for states and frontier regions Shaukatullah owns property worth Rs318850000. In 2008 he had marble mines licence in Bajour worth billions of rupees, according to his asset declaration.

Federal information minister Firdous Ashiq Awan has property worth Rs27501560 and 755 tolas of gold valuing Rs28690000. She also has Rs11311024 cash in hand and in banks and furniture worth Rs700000. In 2008 her assets were worth almost the same.

Makhdoom Amin Fahim has 184 acres of agriculture land; 123 acres is in the name of dependents while tens of dozens of kanals land in the name of Makhdoom Amin Fahim’s father and he shall inherit his share according to law. He also owns five houses in DHA Karachi, one farmhouse in Islamabad and an apartment in Dubai. His furniture is worth Rs3.5 million, jewellery worth Rs2.8 million and cattle worth Rs3.125 million. He also owns two Mercedes Benz and one Toyota and one Honda car.

Sardar Muhammad Umar Gorgag, another federal minister in Gilani’s cabinet, has shown his assets for 2010 to be worth Rs47 million with 92 tola gold and Rs1.2 million furniture. He also owns three vehicles. Interestingly, his 250 goats are worth only Rs1 million.

Changeez Khan Jamali owns a bungalow in Islamabad worth Rs30 million and agriculture land worth Rs25.6 million. He also has 500 shares in National Bank and three cars. He has 30 tola gold and Rs150000 as cash. He is also Rs2.3 million in debt to NBP.
