LAHORE, Sept 22: The Anti-Corruption Establishment has unearthed a scam of tampering and misappropriating plot files and has recovered various files worth billions of rupees along with four registers in a raid on Lahore Development Authority’s Johar Town office on Thursday.
The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has already reported loss of these files and got arrested 12 LDA officials in this regard, ACE spokesman Abid Noor Bhatti told Dawn.
He said the ACE had also extended the scope of investigation for recovery of other important files and registers by involving senior LDA officers.
He said Lahore Development Authority Director (Admin) Khalid Pervaiz sent a reference to ACE’s Lahore Region Director Zulfiqar Ghuman sometime ago, stating that the junior clerk Tayyab Shaheen and former private secretary to director land development Muhammad Hanif had stolen four registers and seven files of as many plots located in Johar Town and Ajodhiapur worth billions of rupees. The files were stolen from director land development’s office, he added.
After receiving the reference, Mr Ghuman appointed Deputy Director Dr Zafar Iqbal and Inspector Atif Tarrar as investigation officers and directed them to arrest the accused nominated by the complainant.
The spokesman said the officials after going through the reference arrested the accused and later raided LDA’s Johar Town office and recovered the files kept hidden in the record room.
He said the Anti-Corruption Establishment team took possession of all the relevant record.
“During preliminary investigation it is revealed some senior officers were also involved in the scam. They will be arrested after further investigation and securing sound evidence,” the spokesman added.
