Arms smuggling bid foiled

RAWALPINDI: Police on Monday thwarted arm smuggling and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunitions from a car and arrested two persons of inter-provisional gang of smugglers.

Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer (RPO) Hamid Mukhtar Gondal said in a press conference at CPO’s Office. High ups of police received information from their informer that arms and ammunition in immense quantity would be smuggled from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Central Punjab via Rawalpindi. On tip off, RPO constituted a team under the supervision of SP Potohar Town Sikandar Hayat to check the smuggling.

Police on doubt stopped a white coloured car at the temporary picket at Chakri and after search 25 repeaters (12 bore) including six box copal guns, 70 pistols (30 bore) and about 25,000 rounds were recovered and arrested two persons Rab Nawaz and Muhammad Amin of Peshawar. The car was also taken into custody.

Bahria car race incident development: Responding a question, RPO told the reporters that a high level team comprising of AIG (Vigilance) Razzaq Cheema and DIG Mubashirullah was investigating the car race tragedy.

Five spectators were killed, when a speedy out of control car rolled over them at Bahria Town on December 5. He said that two persons including Manager of Bahria Town Waleed and driver of the car had been arrested but two main accused were still at large and police was trying to apprehend them.

The RPO said that police department was successful in tracing out the perpetrators of terrorism, which took place in Rawalpindi. In this regard three men were arrested in Prade Lane attacks case and investigation was going, he said. He assured that strict action would be taken against one wheelers on the occasion of new year celebrations.
