Ashiana City to make its debut at Burki Road

Lahore – Ashiana City, a housing scheme providing modern amenities to the common man and consisting of more than 20,000 houses will be established at Burki Road, Lahore, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday.

He directed the authorities concerned to submit a comprehensive plan within seven days and added that the project would be exemplary in terms of architecture, quality of work and transparency.

Shahbaz accredited the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) for providing shelter to the common man in Punjab and helping in realising the dream of thousands of homeless people of having their own houses through the Ashiana Housing Scheme (AHS). Final shape was being given to the scheme in Lahore and all modern facilities, including an industrial estate, schools, colleges, hospitals and bus terminals would be provided under this project, he said.

The CM directed the Punjab Land Development Company to give a briefing within the coming week regarding feasibility, design, financial model and marketing of Aashiyana City. He said three-storey houses would be constructed on three marlas in all future Aashiyana schemes, so that a maximum number of people could benefit adding that 500 more houses would be completed by September 15 in the first Aashiyana Housing Scheme, whereas other houses were also being completed speedily.

Shahbaz said besides Lahore, work was in progress and applications had been invited for the allotment of houses in Aashiyana Housing Schemes in Sahiwal, Sargodha, Jhelum and Faisalabad. He said the cottage industry would be promoted in Ashiana Housing Schemes and a plan in consultation with TEVTA and Punjab Vocational Training Council would be formed so that the youth of Ashiana schemes could be imparted vocational training.

The CM said the best design would be selected for Ashiana City, Burki Road, and thanked Punjab Land Development Board Director Khawaja Mansoor and Malik Riaz of Bahria Town for their services.
