CDA makes anti-littering force to check cleanliness and keep the city in tidy condition

Islamabad, June 03, 2011: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has deployed Anti-Litter Force in different Marakiz of the Federal Capital who will disseminate information and awareness literature among the citizens about the cleanliness as part of Anti-Littering Drive – 2011.

To review the progress on Anti-littering campaign in the city, a meeting was held here on Friday, presided by the Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, Chairman CDA.

Director Sanitation Captain (Retd) Faiz Muhammad apprised the meeting that the Directorate of Sanitation has already chalked out a comprehensive strategy under which an mechanism for cleanliness of the entire markets is working. He said that on the direction of the Chairman CDA Anti-Littering Force has been deployed in Markaz F-6 (Super Market), Markaz F-7 (Jinnah Super Market) and Markaz F-10, where workers of the force would distribute pamphlets containing information on anti-littering and cleanliness in the city would motivate the residents of the Federal Capital to pay their due share for the noble cause, adding that on the conclusion of the campaign workers of the Anti-Littering Force would keep vigilant eye on the people who cause littering in the markets and open areas. He further apprised the Chairman CDA that the people violating the anti-littering would be find on the spot from Rs. 50/- to Rs. 300/-. Director sanitation informed the Chairman CDA that during current week staff of the Sanitation Wing along with heavy machinery has cleaned up the Kashmir Highway (from Golra Morr to GT Road Interchange) and Murree Road (Convention Centre to Third Avenue ). Besides, the workers of Sanitation during the cleanliness drive have also distributed anti-littering literature among the people for awareness purpose. He further informed the meeting that Directorate of Sanitation will extend anti-littering campaign to Islamabad Expressway, IJ Principal Road, Sector G-6, G-8, G-9 and G-10 with best professional skills, adding that in third phase of Anti-Littering Drive, Chairman CDA Imtiaz Inayat Elahi along with Board Members of CDA, Traders, Citizens, NGOs, will participate actively in the cleanliness of the city.

The meeting was apprised that during the month of May, Director Sanitation served more than 600 people with notices for violating municipal bylaws junks in the open areas or dumped building material and wasting water in the streets and caused inconvenience to the residents and passerby. The Challan of 50 people out of these 600 residents have been sent to the court of law for further action. Chairman CDA was further informed that Sanitation Directorate is placing new dustbins with attractive colours in Aabpara Market and Markaz F-8 and the old one would also be repaired and painted.

The Chairman CDA, Imtiaz Inayat Elahi expressed his satisfaction over the performance of Sanitation Directorate and directed the concerned department to seek the cooperation of the public and extend cleanliness drive in small sectors and trade centres on priority. He also directed the concerned officers to ensure the presence of sanitation staff and resolve the issues of the citizens on urgent basis to the best of their satisfaction.
