Islamabad—The shopkeepers of Islamabad are making big money by giving footpaths in front of their shops on rent to vendors whereas CDA has become silent spectator on increasing encroachments in the city.
The vendors after giving rent to the shopkeeper not only grab the footpath but also put impediment for the pedestrians in almost all the markets of the federal capital. Although the shopkeepers have no right to rent out the portion of footpath outside their shops but for the sake of money they do not hesitate to allow vendors and cart pushers to sit outside their shop . These vendors pay to them on daily basis as the rent of a mobile cabin in Abpara market costs Rs. 500 per day.Sanam, a resident of government hostel G-6 said that women face too much hurdles to walk on these footpath as they are totally covered by the encroachers. On the other hand with the advent of Ramadan the encroachers in these markets witnessed more active while number of visitors as well customers also increasing day by day as Eid-ul-Fitr is approaching.
Encroachment in Aabpara market, Melody market, Super market, Jinnah Super, Peshawar mor, Karachi company, F-10 Markaz, F-8 Markaz, F-11 Markaz, G-11 Markaz and is creating inconvenience and problems for residents especially for women and children.
