CDA gets time to act against agro-farm violators

ISLAMABAD, June 21: The Supreme Court of Pakistan granted on Tuesday one month time to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to complete legal process against the violators of the 525 leased out agro-farms.

The CDA had submitted a request in the apex court in this regard through its counsel Ramzan Muhammad Chaudhry advocate.
The three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on a suo motu case told the CDA that they would constitute a commission to verify the survey report being submitted by the civic agency.

The chief justice warned that they could take action if the facts contained in the survey were found unauthentic.

He directed the CDA counsel to also submit copies of terms and conditions of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) regarding the leasing out of the agro-farms.

The counsel apprised the bench that the committee, which was given the mandate to conduct survey, had undertaken the exercise and all the illegal marriage halls had been closed down.

He said that eight cases were registered against the responsible persons and sent to the deputy commissioner office and out of them four were fined to the tune of Rs400,000 each.

The Supreme Court had taken suo motu on media reports claiming that agro-farms were leased out to some influential persons among them were former President Pervez Musharraf, former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, former Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro, former senator Dr Shahzad Waseem and several former army generals and journalists.
