CDG all set to launch anti-encroachment drive

LAHORE – City District Government is all set to launch massive operation against encroachments across the City from Friday (today), after giving due time of clearing the encroachments.

The CDG has already marked encroached land, both at major roads and important business centres in all nine towns and LDA governed areas, with the help of revenue staff and authorities concerned to facilitate operation and reduce the complaints of the traders. The CDG has also taken on board the parliamentarians and traders organisations before launching the massive operation.

Encroachers in the City may find it difficult to run their illegal activity in the coming days as the CDG, armed with latest machinery and political will, has launched a full-fledged campaign to reclaim the government land.

Besides nine towns specific teams, CDG high ups has formed two special squads, one of LDA and the other comprising revenue department officials, to carryout the task of removing the City from the menace of encroachment. Nine DSPs, dozens of police officers and personnel and concerned SHO will assist special teams in specified areas.

Administrator CDG and DCO Ahad Khan Cheema will monitor and supervise the drive at a special cell set up at his office.

Talking to the newsmen, the DCO said that nine DSPs, one for each town, had been deputed for leading the police squads, participating in the operation. He further said that the officials of different departments including revenue department, LDA and different towns had already red-marked the encroached points and buildings.

He informed that all items, part of encroached structures including iron gates, iron rods, windows, furniture and other things would be attached under relevant laws.

Initially, DCO Ahad Cheema examined flag march, entire machinery and the admin force, which is taking part in such grand operation against the encroachments and later he ordered to provide essential machinery and force to all the towns of the city for commencing operation, which would start operation in the wee hours of the day.

He also directed that the operation would be entirely transparent and all the encroachers would not be spared and would be dealt according to law and without any distinguish. However, no citizen would be harassed unduly during the operation.

On the occasion, Cheema said that office-bearers of all the trader organisations had assured their cooperation in this regard and with their cooperation, the operation would be conducted successfully. However, the pushcart vendors could continue their business but would not be allowed to cover or block any specific space in the markets or at roadsides.
