CDWP likely to approve Rs 15.6bn uplift projects

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) in its meeting on September 23 will discuss and approve various development projects costing more than Rs 15,600 million.

CDWP meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Dr Mohammad Akram Sheikh, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission. The meeting will discuss and approve approximately 26 development projects of several ministries and divisions.

The projects include agriculture and food, transport and communication, information technology, energy, water resources, physical planning and housing, population welfare, education, science and technology, higher education commission and other general projects.

The provincial ministers, additional chief secretaries of all the provinces, members of the CDWP and the senior officials of the federal government will also attend it.

CDWP has been scheduled to approve the land record management and information system in the Punjab province with the cost of Rs 3,118 million. Crop maximization (Project-II) at the cost of Rs 7,821.81 million will also be discussed. A bridge will be constructed over River Ravi at Syedwal, District Okara, with an amount of Rs 686.417 million.

Acquisition of land and rehabilitation for major dams will be discussed and the allocation for this big project will be made. Higher Education Commission (HEC) will also put forth as many as six projects for approval.

The other projects include national project to stimulate the adaptation of permanent raised beds for maize-wheat and cotton-wheat farming system in Pakistan costing a total amount of Rs 645.348 million. Besides crop maximization, establishment of cotton fibre testing laboratories phase II (Rs 77.178 million), pre feasibility study for rail link between Havelian to Pak-China border (Rs 160 million), feasibility study for high speed (250 Km/h) standard gauge double track between Rawalpindi-Lahore (Rs 30 million), constructions of roads in Badin Town (Rs 108.384 million) and rehabilitation of telecom system and SCO infrastructure damaged due to 8 Oct earthquake (Rs 630 million).

There are projects associated to energy and water resources. These include Power Distribution Enhancement Project (Rs 72 million), Construction of Additional V.R. Bridge on Dist Minor Taunsa Sharif (Rs 45.66 million) and revised PC-I form for construction of three pumping stations in western circle, Larkana (Rs 120.135 million).
