Lahore: Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Thursday took suo motu notice of the increased sugar prices across the country.
The CJ summoned Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP), Advocate General Punjab (AG) and Deputy Attorney General (DAG) to appear before the court on Aug 19.
The CJ took the notice on the news items appeared in a section of press. The CJ observed that the retail market price of sugar has touched Rs 52 per Kg and in the holy month of Ramzan it may rise upto Rs 56 per Kg.
The court directed the AGP, AG and DAG to furnish the detailed report regarding the number of sugar mills, their production capacity, stock in the open market throughout the country and the steps taken by the government to control the prices.
A Division Bench (DB) comprising the Chief Justice Khawaja Muhammad Sharif and Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhary has been constituted to hear the suo motu notice.
