Committee meeting: Legality of thousands of plot allotments questioned

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has been asked to present complete records of 3,192 plots allotted in the settled sectors of Islamabad. These plots, valued at Rs70 billion, were allotted to different people in posh and settled areas of Islamabad, particularly during the tenure of former CDA Chairperson Kamran Lashari.

The Senate Standing Committee on Interior met with Senator Talha Mehmood in the chair, and was attended by committee members, Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), senior officials of the Federal Board of Revenue and health ministry.

The committee directed CDA Chairperson Imtiaz Inayat Elahi to submit a report detailing the records of the allotment and the legality of the process. The committee also sought details from the CDA about senior bureaucrats, who have managed to get multiple plots allotted.

Moreover, the details of officials serving on deputation who got plots were also sought, as the committee considered this illegal.

The committee also directed CDA and FIA to immediately provide the report about the recent scam pertaining to the allotment of 4,000 agro plots in the Kurri Road by former CDA Director Land, Waseem Shamshad.

CDA Chairperson told the house that he was not in the country when the allotment process was completed, but he got all the allotments cancelled after returning from Saudi Arabia after performing Hajj. He said that the matter is being investigated by CDA and FIA and their findings will be presented to the committee.

Senator Haji Adeel pointed out that questions marks still hover over the allotment of plots for hotels and restaurants in Saidpur Village, and directed the CDA chairperson to give a detailed briefing on the matter.

Senator Nayyar Hussain Bokhari said that the poor people who originally lived in what is now Islamabad lost the most, as they were never allotted any agro-farms. He added that Islamabad police is a regional police force and the local population must be given opportunities to fill vacancies in the force.

The committee also expressed its concern over encroachments on greenbelts and roads, particularly outside five star hotels, and directed the Islamabad Capital Territory administration and CDA to resolve the issue.
