A SPOKESMAN for the Punjab government has said the provincial government is committed to implementing the directions of Honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding widening of Canal Road Lahore and the Chief Secretary Punjab is supervising the activities of the concerned departments to ensure that directions of the Supreme Court are implemented in letter and spirit.
He said that on the directions of the Chief Secretary, the Additional Chief Secretary Punjab convened a meeting on 28th of September, 2011 of the concerned departments associated with the project and chalked out a comprehensive action plan to take care of each and every aspect of the directions of the Apex Court during implementation process. The spokesman said that the Supreme Court in its judgment had directed the government that every tree cut should be replaced by four trees of 6/7 feet. However, the Chief Minister Punjab directed the PHA to plant ten trees instead of four to address the environment concerns and the Director General PHA had already commenced the plantation. He said that a committee under Secretary Housing had been constituted to make a comprehensive plan to stop throwing of litter and discharge of any pollutant into the canal.
