The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has confirmed that it will complete the major Substation M Project at Jebel Ali this year.
Designed to add 2000 MW of electricity power and 140 million gallons of desalinated water to DEWA’s generation capacity, the substation is one of the authority’s biggest projects, with costs expected to exceed AED 10 billion.
Commenting on the progress at the site, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, chief executive officer of DEWA, said: “The second quarter of the present year will see the commissioning of four gas turbines, two auxiliary boilers and one steam turbine, in addition to the units which were put into service last year.”
He also stated that the substation will be working at its full capacity by the end of this year.
DEWA disclosed that its power peak load increased last year by 9.6 per cent compared to 2009 while demand for water increased by 4.4 per cent.
