ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday appointed a senior officer of the Planning Commission, Farkhand Iqbal, as chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), a notification issued by the Establishment Division said.
The outgoing CDA chief Imtiaz Inayat Elahi has been transferred to Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD)
as its secretary.
Mr Iqbal, whose appointment as CDA chief came as a surprise, will assume charge of his office on Thursday.
Before this posting, Mr Iqbal was senior chief of Energy Wing in Planning Commission as Grade-21 officer. Talking to Dawn the new CDA chief vowed to restore development activities in capital. He said, “A lot of development activities can be done in more planned manner in the city,” he said.
The official vowed to make the cash strapped CDA ‘self-reliant’, but did not elaborate on his plans about generating funds.
He said he would ask his team to work on the government’s plans of public-private-partnership to execute new projects without putting any financial burden on the government. The CDA chief said provision of adequate water, bus service, electricity and opening of stalled residential sectors would be his priority.
On the other hand, the removal of Mr Elahi from the office of the CDA chairman was also unexpected.
Talking to Dawn he said he was satisfied with the government’s decision. “When you are in government service, posting and transfers are part of the game,” Mr Elahi said.
“My experience in the CDA will help me in running the CADD,” Mr Elahi said. — Syed Irfan Raza
