French photographic exhibition at Defence Central Library

Karachi: A French photographic exhibition ‘The South and the Society of Information’ was inaugurated at Defence Central Library by Daniel Jouanneau, Ambassador of France to Pakistan here today.
Pierre Seillan, Consul General de France in Karachi and Administrator DHA Brig Khalid Tirmizi were also present on the occasion.
The French Ambassador speaking on the occasion said that collaboration and co-operation between Defence Central Library and French academic and cultural institutions was reflective of the growing co-ordial and meaningful bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
The Ambassador said that France offered tremendous opportunities of progress and advancement to students seeking higher pursuit of learning in various fields of interest. He reiterated that learning of French language had great significance for students and other people who wished to go to France. He said that his country would encourage and patronize initiatives by organizations like DCL for promotion of French language.
He said that France wanted to see a strong and technologically advanced Pakistan and would extend all scientific and technological help in this regard.
He said that holding of activities like photographic and art exhibitions provided a healthy opportunity for social and cultural interaction in the society. He added that France would play its positive role in promoting such activities.
Earlier Administrator DHA Brig Khalid Tirmizi said that DHA provided the best social, cultural, educational and civic facilities to its residents in an aesthetically vibrant environment. He said that Defence Central Library was a premier institution of DHA and provided best library services and stimulating reading and learning environment to its residents. He said that DCL was keen to explore new avenues of co-operation and support with donor agencies as part of its modernization and expansion programme.
Photographic Exhibition depicts in pictorial form the gap existing between North and South regarding information and communication technologies.
It is a scientific exhibition which depicts the importance of these technologies in southern countries and its impact on their educational, political, economical and social life.
The French Ambassador inaugurated a ‘Campus Francaise Desk’ established in DCL which will not only provide books on France but also provide complete information and guidance to the students going for higher education in France. He also met the students of French Language Class being run at DCL by French tutors in collaboration with Alliance Franciase.
The French Photographic Exhibition at DCL will be held for two days starting Thursday. The event will be open for the lovers of art and photography from 0900 Hrs to 2000 Hrs on Thu 29 Jan’ 09.
