The reconstruction and upgrading of sector G-6 weekly bazaar would be completed by the end of this year, an official of Capital Development Authority told The Post Sunday.
According to details, the CDA has assigned the contract of renovation and reconstruction to an Islamabad based private construction company.
Some 1,800 stalls would be constructed in the bazaar and CDA would spend Rs70 million on the project.
A boundary wall would be constructed and four main gates would be installed for entry into the weekly bazaar.
Fruits, vegetables and all other eatables would be placed in separate sections of the newly-built bazaar and the CDA has extended the size of the stall. Earlier, the size of the stall was 6×8 and the new stalls would have a size of 8×8, the official added.
He said public toilets and clean drinking water facility would be available in the bazaar, adding that public address system and lost and found system would also be introduced in the bazaar to provide facility to the visitors.
Footpaths and waiting area would be built in the bazaar and a swift system of waste-removal be managed to make it clean, the official added.
All the work going on in the bazaar were executed by the Works Directorate of the civic body and after the completion of renovation and reconstruction of the bazaar it would be looked after by the Sanitation Directorate of the authority, he said.
When contacted Mustafa Kazmi, director Sanitation, while talking about the reconstruction of the bazaar, said the ground breaking ceremony of the bazaar was scheduled today but it was postponed due to the engagements of the Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao, adding that it was expected that the ceremony would be held in the next week.
Talking about the security system in the bazaar, he said CDA would set up pickets in the bazaar to have an eye on the suspects and the CDA staffers and police officials would be deployed in the bazaar to avert any terrorist activity. He said the model of the bazaar was designed by the pre-qualified architects Sulaman Mansoor and Qaisar Hassan.
