I-15 development contract cannot be awarded by the CDA

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has failed to award the contract of I-15 development work despite the passage of months to the cancellation of earlier awarded contract for the purpose in same sector.

The town planners had cancelled the contract of Al Khan Construction Company, owing to slow speed of its work.

The civic body and the construction company had claimed that the development of the sector would be completed within the stipulated time of two period, said an official source here on Sunday.

He said that CDA chief while launching the sector had also said that the CDA would ensure the completion of work before the deadline in order to solve the accommodation problem faced by many in the Capital.

Nonetheless, he said that the owing to persistent delay in the development work, first due to slow work by the previous contractor and second because of non-awarding of contract to new part, the capital city developers were not likely to complete the project even in next three to four years.

The source said after canceling the contract the authority board has decided that they would hire another contractor to complete the project as soon as possible but till date they made no efforts in this regard. On one hand the CDA filed to hire a new contractor and on the other hand they had not fined the old contractor, as the owner of Al Khan Construction Company is the brother of Nasir Khan, Federal Minister for Health, he added.

He said that this sector had been launched to resolve housing problems of the low-income group people, having maximum annual income of Rs 150,000. The sector having total of 13500 housing units including 5500 plots of five to seven marlas and 8000 flats, he added.

The source said the delay in the development work of residential sector would increase the housing problem in the federal capital. He said Islamabad is currently facing a shortage of 40,000 housing units, which has inflated real estate prices in the city.

The existing number of houses here is 70,000 while 110,000 housing units are required. Each year, the demand for housing went up by 5,000 units, he added.
