Islamabad: CDA asked to expedite work on projects

ISLAMABAD: Cabinet Secretary Zafar Mahmood on Thursday directed Capital Development Authority (CDA) to expedite work on development projects to facilitate the citizens, a senior CDA official told Daily Times.

He said Mahmood issued these directives while presiding over a meeting held at CDA Headquarters. CDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood Khan, Member Estate Brig ® Asad Munir, Member Finance Saeedur Rehman, Member Administration SM Farooqi, Member Planning & Design Syed Tanvir Bukhari, Member Environment Mazhar Hussain and Senior Director Public Relations Rawal Khan Maitla attended the meeting, he said.

He said Mahmood asked CDA to speed up work on its projects, complete them within their stipulated time and also maintain the quality. The official said Mahmood told the meeting that the Cabinet Division would fully cooperate in completion of all projects initiated by CDA.

He said the projects, which remained incomplete since long, should now be completed by CDA.

According to the official, Mahmood said the traffic problem was increasing with each passing day in the federal capital and the CDA should start work on Rapid Mass Transit System on immediate basis to facilitate the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

He also directed CDA to launch new sectors and speed up development work of the already launched sectors to overcome the growing accommodation problems in the capital.

Mahmood said CDA needed to take special measures for marketing of commercial property.

The CDA chairman informed the secretary about functioning of the civic body and its various ongoing mega development projects and the projects it completed recently. He said CDA would start work on several development projects in near future. He said besides the development projects, CDA was struggling to improve the environment of the city and in this regard CDA had launched “Clean & Green Islamabad Project”.

The CDA chairman also informed the secretary about the development work in different residential sectors. He said the authority was working on a plan regarding extension of Blue Area.

Islamabad: CDA asked to expedite work on projects

  1. I was born and raised in islamabad. Since the day one, as far as my memory is concerned, Islamabad, being a capital of country, has severe crises for drinking water availability. Islamabad residents are desperately looking for water in Summer’s scorching heat when all dams in vicinity get dried. Eventhough CDA claims to have been providing water from two major dams i.e. Sibly and Rawal, but still the situation has been rapidly deteriorating. The entire potable water infrastructure is forty years old. Ostensibly, huge investment in water related infrastructure is required to ameliorate the current horrifying condition, for example, 1) construction of more dams like Bhasha Dam etc.2) replacement of rusty existing water storage and delivery system with modern one, 3)Installment of more water cleaning plants AND most importantly their regular inspection and maintenance.
Besides potable water crisis and absolute lack of public mass transport system, electricity has become “Eid Cresent.” In order to bring Islamabad at par with other capitals of the world, Fed. Gov. or CDA has to invest huge sum of its capital to provide residents with basic amenities.

  2. In addition with this Multiple Bus system will create more congestion rather then facilitating the city traffic. More over A Tram System run more smoothly then Bus System. We had seen successful experience of Tram in Karachi.
