Federal Minister for Housing and Works Rehmatullah Kakar Tuesday said the ministry would launch six housing schemes, as pilot project next week, to kick off work on gigantic programme of constructing one million housing units.
He was talking to a delegation of Spanish construction company, ‘Enercons’ that called on him at his office here.
He told the delegation that foreign companies are showing keen interest to invest in housing sector in Pakistan, adding that talks with representatives of China, UAE, England and Malaysia and Spanish firms were going on to materialise the scheme. Kakar said under the plan one million low cost houses would be constructed for low-income groups of the society including low-scale government servants throughout the country to overcome acute shortage of housing units. He assured the delegation that government would provide a congenial environment to foreign companies with full guarantee to accomplish the task on war-footing.
The told the Spanish delegation that quality of work and standard would be maintained at all cost, adding that time frame was the main factor of the scheme.
Secretary Housing and Works Sami-ul-Haq Khiljee told the delegation that a total of 70,000 acres land would be required for the gigantic housing scheme of one million houses, adding that government has 36,000 acres land, both state and private and the rest would be acquired with the passage of time.
