LAHORE– Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday that work is speedily being done on the project of Bus Rapid Transit System, which will provide safe and speedy transport facilities to the masses.
The CM said that provision of comfortable and quality transport facilities to the masses is a top priority for the Provincial Government and solid steps have been taken for this purpose. The government has started modern transport services in the provincial metropolis and its scope will soon be extended to other big cities, he added while presiding over a meeting to review the pace of progress of BRT System project and transport facilities, on
Saturday.
MNA Mian Marghoob Ahmad and Bilal Yasin, Chairman Lahore Transport Company Kh. Ahmad Hasaan, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Transport, NLC Brigadier Shahid Majeed, DCO Lahore and other officers were also present there.
While addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that RBT System is being completed with the cooperation of Turkey to provide modern day transport facilities at par with developed states. The project, he said, will be completed speedily in a transparent manner. In the first phase, a track will be laid from General Hospital to Kalma Chowk, second from Gajjumata to General Hospital and from Shahdara to Kalma Chowk in the third phase, adding that the project of BRT is of great importance and any delay will not be tolerated.
The Punjab CM directed to constitute a committee headed by MPA Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmad, to take steps for completion of the project at the earliest. He said that an effective system should be evolved for keeping smooth flow of traffic during the construction of the project and the people should not face any difficulties in this regard.
The CM also directed the committee to form a vigorous publicity plan for creating awareness among the masses about the importance of BRT project so that maximum citizens could benefit from it.
Earlier, Director General LDA, Abdul Jabbar Shaheen gave a briefing about the progress being made on the project.
