LAHORE: Justice Hamid Ali Shah of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued notices to the provincial government on an application moved on behalf of the World Wildlife Federation (WWF) and others, seeking a stay against the proposed Canal Road widening project.
The judge sought a reply from the Punjab government, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and Environment Protection Agency (EPA).
The WWF, Lahore Bachao Tehreek and 13 other co-petitioners have challenged the Canal Road widening project from Dharampura to Thokar Niaz Baig.
The petitioners’ counsel said the project would cause environmental degradation, severe damage to the city’s look and health and safety issues.
He prayed that the government should be stopped from launching this project until the decision of the main petition.
