ISLAMABAD: The Pak-Afghan Transit Trade talks scheduled for today (Friday) have been postponed.
The Afghan government conveyed about the postponement of its delegation’s visit to Pakistan in emergency on Thursday evening. According to the programme, details with regard to the implementation of the Pak-Afghan trade were to be settled during the talks.
Mumtaz Haider Rizvi, Member Customs, Federal Board of Revenue, who was to represent Pakistan at the talks said that the new Pak-Afghan Transit Trade Agreement would be implemented from the next month. It is expected that all misconducts will be overcome in case the agreement is implemented in letter and spirit.
He said nobody would be allowed to collect the goods imported under the agreement without bank guarantee from the ports of Karachi, Bin Qasim or Gwadar. Moreover, only Customs-bonded careers would be allowed to lift the goods.
The postponement of Pak-Afghan talks is being observed as a result of efforts of smuggle mafia that does not want to see the agreement implemented.
