Karachi: A meeting of DHA Executive Board chaired by its President Lt. Gen Shahid Iqbal was held here today to review the pace of progress of various ongoing projects in DHA.

The Board was updated on the progress of repair of DHA’s Cogen Power & Desalination Plant which had been shut down since 12 Sep’ 08 due to the damage to the hollow shaft of gas turbine compressor. The damaged central hollow shaft has been replaced and the reassembled rotor has been brought to the plant site. However the reinstallation of rotor got pended due to the collateral damages to other parts of the plant. The damaged parts have already been ordered and after installation of the same by Siemens experts the plant would start functioning by early March this year.

The Executive Board was informed that rehabilitation of roads damaged due to laying of drainage system in DHA had already commenced since 15 Dec’ 08. President Executive Board directed DHA & CBC to undertake re-carpeting and repair works of major roads and the ones where a public facility exists on priority basis. He said the same should be undertaken without affecting any major change in the work schedule.

The Executive Board was informed that Creek Vistas comprising twelve (17 stories) high-rise residential towers located in DHA Ph-VIII have almost been completed. The first four towers would be handed over to its occupants this month while rest of the towers would be given to the respective owners in a phased programme by April’ 09. PEB directed DHA to ensure provision of qualitative recreational and entertainment facilities to the residents in the locality.

President Executive Board asked DHA and CBC to devise a wholesome strategy envisaging workable and imaginative solutions for improving the solid waste management in DHA. The Administrator informed the Board that CBC monitors were continuously in communication with the residents and a number of new initiatives like night sweeping in commercial areas and a reinvigorated garbage collection schedule in Zamzama Commercial as a model area had been adopted. He said that as a result of these measures the level of sanitation in the area had started showing perpetual improvement.

President Executive Board underlined the need to specifically focus on the areas of security, hygiene and provision of good amenities in the area. He asked DHA & CBC not to spare any effort for creating aesthetically vibrant environment in the locality. He also urged the DHA management to bring quality to all their undertakings and to ensure resident responsive management in its essence.

The Corps Commander in his concluding remarks appreciated the determined and renewed efforts of DHA’s management for putting a new lease of life in many stalled development projects despite the period of financial crunch. He directed the DHA’s staff to work with total commitment to bring a qualitative change in DHA’s living environments.

Earlier Administrator DHA Brig Khalid Tirmizi presented the progress report and reiterated that Housing Authority was taking proactive measures to improve the civic amenities and work culture in DHA.
