QUETTA (APP) – Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Khan Raisani has offered facilities to the European Union and the Central Asian states for establishing trade consulate in Gwadar, the coastal town of the province and launching development projects.
“Due to its geo-graphical position and deep-sea waters, Gwadar will become hub of commercial activities of the region, creating opportunities for investment,” said the chief minister during his meeting with French Consul General Christain Ramage who called on him here Wednesday. Balochistan Ministers Abdul Khaliq Achakzai and Mir Asad Baloch, Chief Secretary Mir Ahmed Bakhsh Lehri and Brig (r) Abdul Razzaq Baloch were also present.
Raisani said his government would welcome and extend its cooperation to the friendly countries, which would establish trade consulate and launch development projects in this coastal region of Balochistan.
He said that some friendly countries had expressed their interest and positively responded to the invitation by the Balochistan government to set up trade consulate in Gwadar. Although wheat and fertilizer were being imported through Gwadar port, linking the port with road and railway network includes the plan to make the port operational and functional.
Raisani said that an operational Gwadar port would benefit entire region due to its natural geo-graphical position as Central Asian States, Afghanistan and other neighbouring countries would avail themselves of the facility to promote their import and export trade through this deep sea water port.
He invited the French consul general to visiting Gwadar port to review suitable environment for investment.
Apprising the consul general about steps being taken to promote education in Balochistan, he said that imparting education to every child of the province was priority of the provincial government adding that adequate funds had been allocated in the budget in this regard.
He told the French consul general that Balochistan government recruited 5,000 teachers in current financial year and sanctioned Rs 1 billion funds for upgrading of educational institutions and that a comprehensive plan had been devised for training of the newly-recruited teachers.
“Balochistan is the only province of the country where teachers have been given facility of time scale which has increased their salaries, “Raisani said, adding that management cadre is being introduced and teachers through facilities are being encouraged to focus their attention on imparting education to students.
