THE Punjab government has made the arrangements for the release of 10,000 tons of wheat to the flourmills from today (Thursday) at Rs 975 per 40 kg.
According to official sources, price of 20-kg wheat flour bag will remain almost the same in the open market with the provision of wheat from Food Department’s warehouses. It is learnt that ex-mill price of 20-kg flour bag will be Rs 540-45 and it will be sold at retail price of Rs 550-555 per bag.
Sources added that availability of wheat in the open market was getting drier with the passage of time. Therefore, it is decided to release wheat from official godowns. This step will also help in easing flour supply in the market to a great extent.
It is pertinent to mention here that provincial Food Department has already started releasing 10,500 tons of wheat to the flourmills under subsidized flour scheme on the eve of holy month of Ramazan.
