Security plan developed for Gwadar

QUETTA: A five-year security plan has been developed for Gwadar, the Central Police Office told Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Muhammad Yousuf on Monday.

The police said that Gwadar’s development as an international seaport and its importance in the Turkemenistan oil and gas imports and the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline necessitated increased security for the area.

Plan would cost Rs 30 billion and the federal government would bear all expenses, said the police. New police stations, police posts and weaponry for Gawadar district and city along with hiring 4,500 officials were part of the project. A training centre would also be established to train recruits and provide residential facilities to them.

In the project’s first phase, the Motorway Police would be introduced on the Coastal Highway and would control 50 kilometres of the area.

The governor and chief minister praised the security plan and approved the construction of government offices, a residential colony and public and private sector offices. They asked the police to prepare the project’s feasibility report.

Later, the dignitaries inaugurated the Balochistan police website “balochistanpolice.com.pk “. Balochistan Home Minister Mir Shoaib Nowsehrwani, Balochistan Inspector General of Police Chaudhry Yaqoob and other officials attended the briefing. app
